Product Description

This item is now discontinued. You can view the new version here: HYPNOS ORTHOS ELITE WOOL MATTRESS.

The Hypnos Orthos Wool is part of Hypnos firmer feeling range of mattresses and is designed to offer superb support and comfort at a great price. This Orthopaedic mattress is handmade using only the finest materials and specifications. The Orthos Wool boasts an excellent spring unit, designed to promote perfect posture – eliminating aches and pains, as well as offering luxurious levels of comfort.

The Hypnos Orthos Wool is one of the more popular mattresses in the Hypnos range. As the entry-level model for the Orthopaedic collection from Hypnos, this mattress gets a lot of attention! The Orthos Wool is built around a great spring unit, designed to support the body perfectly, without compromise on support or comfort.

Specifications

The Orthos Wool has the excellent Hypnos ReActive Spring Unit. To collapse a normal spring, you would simply continue applying the same amount of pressure. This means that other bed manufacturers have to use a firm spring to create a supportive bed and resist the application of pressure - this compromises comfort.

With a Hypnos Spring, there are pressure thresholds ("turns"). These thresholds mean that more and more pressure is required to collapse the spring completely (6 Turns = 6 Thresholds). The outer Turns of the spring will not require much energy to compress, but more and more energy is required to collapse the Spring completely. In short, a Hypnos Spring will be soft when it needs to be and firm when it needs to be - no compromise.

As well as this innovative Spring unit, the Orthos Wool boasts a deep pad of hand applied natural fillings. These fillings are the highest quality and offer comfort and durability. The surface layers are bound together by hand. This process is called Tufting and ensures the fillings and the spring unit are bound together, ensuring durability as well as a solid, stable mattress. The cover material of the Orthos Wool is a Silver infused Bamboo Damask. This extraordinary material remains cool, dry and encourages healthier sleep.

    Firm, but not firm enough
I was asked to write a review of the mattress and do not mind but I had to switch to the firmer Hypnos mattress, the Althorpe Orthopaedic. The althorpe ortho was firmer and more to my liking. This mattress is very good but still had some bounce on top.

Do you collect and dispose of mattress being replaced?

Tim, We can indeed! In the checkout, there is an option for recycling of your old bed or mattress.

Is this a single sided or double sided mattress ?

Colin, This is a turnable mattress, which is recommended to be turned once per Season (3 months). We recommend this is done more often in the first month after delivery (to aid even settlement).

Hi, can you tell me the number of pocket springs in the Hypnos Orthos wool mattress please, and if it's possible to order the extra firm option in a small double. Thank you!

Angela, Hypnos do not reveal the spring count of their mattresses, as they are larger than average due to the sophisticated 'tuning' they go through. We can order a Firm tension for you, either state this at checkout, or give us a call!

Glossary

  • Divan

The term 'Divan' comes from the Greek word 'Divani', meaning a couch-like piece of furniture. Divans have many, many variations as they are essentially a surface on which to place the mattress with space for storage underneath.

The Four Drawer Divan features two equal sized drawers on either side of the base. A Four Drawer base is not typically an option for Small Single, or Single sized beds due to the lack of space in the base.

  • Drawer Options

The term 'Divan' comes from the Greek word 'Divani', meaning a couch-like piece of furniture. Divans have many, many variations as they are essentially a surface on which to place the mattress with space for storage underneath.

A traditional Four Drawer Divan features two equal sized drawers on either side of the base. A Four Drawer base is not typically an option for Small Single, or Single sized beds due to the lack of space in the base. There are many options for the Divan Base, they include:

    • No Drawer.
    • 2 Drawer.
    • 4 Drawer.
    • 4 Drawer Continental (2 normal sized drawers and two smaller drawers, usually designed to accommodate bedside furniture).
    • End Drawer (which can also be combined with 2 side drawers).

Divan bases can also include the above options but also with the extra option of a Sprung Base, or a Platform Top/Solid Base.

  • Drawers (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Drawers are made to a very high standard - as you would expect - and can hold a large amount of goods, and a large amount of weight.

  • Fibre Most mattresses will have layers of fillings under the surface to increase comfort and separate the spring units from the surface. The most common fillings used in mattresses are cotton, wool and polyester among others. Mattresses require fillings to create a soft surface tension on which to sleep. The fillings normally compliment the internal spring unit by adding comfort to the support offered (by the spring unit) The tension of the surface fillings can be tuned by the density in which they are packed as well as by the method in which they are bound together. Tufting results in a slightly firmer feel than quilting.
  • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

  • Guarantee (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Guarantee extends for a Decade. Your new Hypnos mattress or base will have a leaflet with more information, as well as a form to be completed and sent to Hypnos directly.

  • Handles (Hypnos)

All Hypnos mattresses have handles stitched into them, to help with movement. Hypnos mattresses are heavier than the average mattress, and the handles will help with movement, turning and rotating.

  • Orthos (Hypnos)

Orthos is Hypnos' term for Orthopaedic. Hypnos use this term for several, Medium/Firm mattresses.

  • Platform Top

A Platform Top Divan (also called a 'Solid Top), is the traditional base option used in Divan beds. The base is a simple wooden framed construction with or without drawers inside. The surface is a solid peice of wood which the mattress is placed on.

Platform Top divans will result in the mattress offering the tension / firmness it is designed to offer. A Sprung Edge Divan will soften the overall feel significantly. The Platform Top base is a simple construction and easily leaves plenty of space for storage.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Queen (Hypnos)

Hypnos have been holders of the Royal Warrant since 1929. Hypnos's Royal Warrant is for HM Queen Elizabeth II and covers the category - 'Bedding and upholstery manufacturers'.

  • ReActive (Hypnos)

This is the Hypnos spring unit that has 8 Turns and features Active Turns.

  • Turns (Hypnos)

This relates to the ReActive and UltraSens spring units. The term Turn is the number of points that the spring has been heat treated, therefore the number of pressure thresholds it can respond to.
