Product Description

The Dura Beds Panache mattress is part of the Backcare Collection, a range of beds created to produce a more supportive feel, but as this Panache mattress highlights, they do not have to be compromised on the comfort they offer. This wonderfully comfortable 'Cushion Top' mattress boasts support and comfort in equal measure. Built around an Open Coil spring system, Dura Beds have applied layers of fibre fillings to the top of this no-turn mattress, adding a deep surface of pure comfort.

The Open Coil springs at the centre of this mattress are 12.5 gauge, providing a firmer feel and stable core to the mattress. These springs are made from one continuous wire, which spreads your body weight evenly and instantly across the mattress. Open Coil springs have been used for over a century and as the most commonly used spring type in the World, you can be sure that they're as durable as they are efficient.

This Dura Beds mattress has a deep, luxurious Cushion Top, a deep pad of fibre fillings that creates a wonderfully comfortable sleeping surface. This is a no-turn mattress, so the design can be focussed with body weight being applied in one direction only. The deep, deep layers of fibre fillings used in this mattress are not only extremely comfortable, but they're breathable and so remain cool and comfortable at all times.

This is a smooth, quilted mattress with an even surface. Dura Beds have wrapped the Panache in a silky-smooth, stretch-knit fabric that is as comfortable as it is durable. This tactile cover is also breathable and so the airflow is further increased.

Glossary

  • Coil Sprung

An Open Coil spring unit is made from a continuous piece of wire. This wire can be made from various different gauges of wire, resulting in differing firmnesses. The idea behind an Open Coil spring unit, or Continuous Springs as they are sometimes known, is that the spring unit can be made quickly, efficiently and therefore for little cost. Open Coil spring units tend to be the reserve of the entry level models on the market. However, some manufacturers have perfected the technique and the end result is extremely successful.

Open Coil spring units tend to be the reserve of the entry level models on the market. However, some manufacturers have perfected the technique and the end result is extremely successful.

A single piece of wire will be placed in a machine, bent into coils. Each coil will be joined at the top, the bottom or both and the result is a spring unit made of one wire. The reason this works well, is that the springs can support one another and share any weight or pressure across the surface. Other methods of spring units include Twin Sprung or Pocket Sprung.

  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Pillow Top

A pillow top mattress is a relatively new development in the bedding industry. Originally the technique applied to the more expensive mattresses, the technique has been perfected to such an extent that the prices have fallen the Pillow Top is much more widely available. Known as the Euro Top by American retailers, the design was originally on the wider market a few years ago, and is now a common site in bedrooms around the World. The idea is to separate the surface fillings from the core of the mattress itself. This results in more support and more comfort. Many traditional mattresses fasten the surface fillings to the spring unit in the mattress. A Pillow Top mattress has a distinct separate layer for the fillings and therefore reacts independently to the spring unit, resulting in less dipping and a solid feel. The technique also offers greater edge-to-edge support.

Pillow tops can take many forms nowadays. A deep layer on the surface which contains memory foam. Another technique of Pillow Top mattress is the Silentnight Treasure mattress. A shallower, quilt like style. All in all, this type of mattress is continuing to go from strength to strength and would appear to be here to stay.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
