Product Description

The Hypnos Hampstead mattress is a superb addition to the no-turn collection. This mattress is medium to Soft tension and offers all the excellent detailing of a Hypnos mattress, complete with superb comfort and great support. This mattress has the added bonus of not needing turning over, just rotating! This makes it an obvious choice for those who do not wish to lift a heavy mattress over every 12 weeks, as it only needs rotating (spinning around). Hypnos have used their famous ReActive pocket spring unit in this mattress and topped it with luxurious natural fillings, which include Wool, Cotton and super-soft Cashmere. This is the top of the range mattress and is very popular indeed.

This wonderful mattress is backed by Hypnos' 10-year guarantee, which gives you peace of mind, knowing the quality and durability you can expect for years to come. This mattress is also covered by our sleep trial, so you can try the mattress for, make sure you're happy with it or we can exchange or refund you. You can read more details of our sleep trial by clicking here.

This Hypnos mattress has a pocket-sprung mattress at its core. These springs act like conventional pocket springs, but with a twist! A normal pocket spring will work independently from its surrounding springs, so as weight is applied then each spring will move up and down accordingly, not affecting its neighbouring springs and so offering a very precise and accurate level of support. Hypnos has taken this further, and not only will the springs work on their own, but as more weight is applied to a Hypnos spring, it will actually get firmer, meaning more support where it is required. Such a clever and simple idea has resulted in Hypnos becoming massively popular as their mattresses boast truly orthopaedic support without the need of being rock solid. Where you need more support - you get it, instantly.

As this is a no-turn mattress, there is only one sleeping surface, which means that Hypnos has been able to concentrate the fillings on one side only. Each layer of these fillings is applied by hand, ensuring an even and consistent level of support. These luxury fillings include Wool, Cotton and Cashmere. These fillings are not only natural, but they are fully breathable, so keep cool and comfortable. They're also naturally able to prevent dust mites from thriving.

This is a tufted mattress, hence the dimples you see on the surface. This detail sees a cord passed through the mattress to bind its contents in place securely, increasing durability but also preventing the fillings from moving over time, as well as keeping the mattress at a set level of tension. The Hampstead mattress also has handles and breather vents all around and is finished in a wonderfully tactile and durable damask material.

Hypnos mattresses are among the finest on the market and are very highly regarded. Hypnos mattresses are handmade and have a 10-year guarantee. The fillings are natural and of very high quality.

Can this be used with a slatted bed base?

Yes, this Hypnos mattress can be used on a slatted bed, as long as the slats are not more than 7cm apart from each other.

How soft is the Hampstead mattress are springs softer

The Hypnos Hampstead is a medium firmness mattress, perhaps just slightly on the softer side of medium. The springs are supportive and so great for posture.

How many pocket springs does the kind size Hypnos Hampstead mattress have?

Hypnos do not reveal their spring counts for their mattresses, as their springs are quite wide, and so there are fewer in a mattress than some other suppliers. However, the quality of the spring is what matters, and Hypnos' is among the very best.

Glossary

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Fibre Most mattresses will have layers of fillings under the surface to increase comfort and separate the spring units from the surface. The most common fillings used in mattresses are cotton, wool and polyester among others. Mattresses require fillings to create a soft surface tension on which to sleep. The fillings normally compliment the internal spring unit by adding comfort to the support offered (by the spring unit) The tension of the surface fillings can be tuned by the density in which they are packed as well as by the method in which they are bound together. Tufting results in a slightly firmer feel than quilting.
  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

  • Hypoallergenic

Put simply, Hypoallergenic materials do not cause the amount of irritation that non-hypoallergenic materials can. Hypoallergenic materials can still cause irritation in some cases, the chances of this are reduced greatly. People with severe allergies and asthma may still have problems with items called hypoallergenic, but the risk is greatly reduced.

Hypoallergenic materials do not omit the same particles and fibres as other non-hypoallergenic materials. These particles are to blame for causing irritation and discomfort and in some cases the irritation can be dangerous. The Hypoallergenic properties of these materials can be created by number of techniques. Some materials (Memory Foam or Latex) are naturally hypoallergenic, others have been chemically treated.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Tension

    Another word for Firmness.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.
