The Hypnos Pillow Comfort Sunstone is part of the 2019 Pillow Comfort collection, a superb range of sumptuous beds created to highlight the quality and comfort that a Hypnos mattress can offer. The Sunstone mattress boasts a superb specifications, including the famous Hypnos ReActive pocket springs and a deep, luxurious layer of natural fillings, including Wool, Cotton and Latex. Hypnos make each of their mattresses by hand and apply the same approach they have since the company was created many decades ago. Hypnos are holders of the Royal Warrant for a reason, and the Pillow Comfort Sunstone underlines this fact.

The Pillow Comfort Sunstone has the excellent ReActive Pocket Spring unit at its core, a pioneering evolution of the now-standard pocket spring. A conventional pocket spring is very good, moving up and down like a piston as weight is applied, to accurately conform to the body's contours, promoting good posture and offering great support. Each spring is independent of one another, meaning any compressed spring will not interfere with its neighbours, enhancing the accuracy of the support offered, no compromise. A Hypnos ReActive spring takes this further and will get firmer as more body weight is applied. This very clever evolution means that the areas of the body that put the most weight into the mattress (hips and shoulders) actually have a higher level of support and therefore good posture is maintained at all times. There are various standards of ReActive spring, the Pillow Comfort Sunstone has an 8-Turn spring, meaning it recognises 8 different levels of firmness. This is something you may not detect, but over time your body will feel the benefit, and you will awake each morning without aches and pains.

Hypnos have chosen nothing but the finest fillings for this luxury mattress, which include Cotton, Wool and Latex. These layers are applied by hand and compliment each other perfectly. All the fillings are natural and are not only supremely comfortable but are breathable and maintain a cool and comfortable nights sleep, night after night. Latex is not to be confused with Memory Foam, as it is completely natural (taken from a rubber tree) and conforms to the body's contours instantly and without requiring heat to do so.

This Hypnos mattress is finished in a superb new fabric, which is as tactile as it is durable. This silky smooth fabric is finished in the new 37.5® active technology. This new technology results in the mattress holding warmth when you're cold and cools you when you're hot, aiming to maintain the 37.5degC that the body naturally tries to sustain. Each fibre of the material is infused with mineral particles that absorb excess heat and moisture or release it when you're too cool.

This is a no-turn Hypnos mattress, only needing rotating once per season (although we recommend this is done more often in the first three months after delivery). Hypnos have hand tufted this mattress, hence the dimple like appearance on the surface, which holds the fillings in place and ensures a precise level of firmness across the mattress. There are also handles and breather vents on all sides. Hypnos have side stitched this mattress to strengthen the sidewalls, increasing the comfortable sleeping surface by up to 15% (in a Double size).

The Pillow Comfort Sunstone is backed by Hypnos' full 10-year guarantee and we deliver it to the room of choice for FREE!

      So well made
The quality is better than anything else we saw in the shops, and that includes beds that were twice the price.
Only niggle; there was a lot of plastic packaging on arrival, which Im sure is recycled, but cloth bags may be better for the environment.

    Frequently Asked Questions -
    3 Answers

Would the Hypnos Pillow Top Sunstone mattress be suitable for an ottoman base?

Yes, the Hypnos Pillow Top Sunstone can be used on an ottoman base. If it is a slatted base, please ensure the slats are not more than 7cm apart from eachother.

How many springs are in your Hypnos ReActive 8 Turn Pocket Springs king size mattress, please?

Hello. Hypnos do not reveal their spring counts because their springs are quite large but perform better than other brands. However; we can confirm it is in the thousands.

How often does it need rotating?

We would recommend once per Season (every 3 months), but also to do so more often in the first 3 months, perhaps every 2-3 weeks.

    Glossary

    • Active Turns (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Spring Unit is a special design. With a conventional spring, a continued application of pressure will compress the spring completely. With a Hypnos spring, you can apply a certain amount of pressure and collapse the spring only so far, you have to apply more pressure to compress the spring further.

This gradual and progressive response from the spring allows for perfect support - not too firm, not too soft. The spring has been treated with various thresholds throughout, known as Active Turns, and it is these Active Turns that allow for the perfect amount of support.

    • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

    • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

    • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

    • Guarantee (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Guarantee extends for a Decade. Your new Hypnos mattress or base will have a leaflet with more information, as well as a form to be completed and sent to Hypnos directly.

    • Pillow Top

A pillow top mattress is a relatively new development in the bedding industry. Originally the technique applied to the more expensive mattresses, the technique has been perfected to such an extent that the prices have fallen the Pillow Top is much more widely available. Known as the Euro Top by American retailers, the design was originally on the wider market a few years ago, and is now a common site in bedrooms around the World. The idea is to separate the surface fillings from the core of the mattress itself. This results in more support and more comfort. Many traditional mattresses fasten the surface fillings to the spring unit in the mattress. A Pillow Top mattress has a distinct separate layer for the fillings and therefore reacts independently to the spring unit, resulting in less dipping and a solid feel. The technique also offers greater edge-to-edge support.

Pillow tops can take many forms nowadays. A deep layer on the surface which contains memory foam. Another technique of Pillow Top mattress is the Silentnight Treasure mattress. A shallower, quilt like style. All in all, this type of mattress is continuing to go from strength to strength and would appear to be here to stay.

    • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

    • Pressure Points

Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).

When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight.

    • Queen (Hypnos)

Hypnos have been holders of the Royal Warrant since 1929. Hypnos's Royal Warrant is for HM Queen Elizabeth II and covers the category - 'Bedding and upholstery manufacturers'.

    • Royal Warrant

      See 'Queen'.

    • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

    • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.

    • Turns (Hypnos)

This relates to the ReActive and UltraSens spring units. The term Turn is the number of points that the spring has been heat treated, therefore the number of pressure thresholds it can respond to.
