Frequently Asked Questions

Is this mattress heavier than the premier inn mattress. Our current mattress (not premier inn) is very comfortable, more than twice the price but so heavy we can’t turn it around let alone flip it over. We have an old premier inn mattress in our spare room which we can turn and I would buy another but they have changed to silent night and many reviews are very negative !

Product Description

Have you ever wondered which Hypnos mattress is found in the premier hotels and inns in England? It could well be this, the Hypnos Premier Goodwood mattress. This supremely well made mattress is backed with a 10-year guarantee and is handmade in Buckinghamshire, using only the finest fillings. Hypnos has been well known for their high quality and great attention to detail for many years and has carried the Royal Warrant for decades, and Hypnos mattresses have long been supplied to the top hotels in the world.

This wonderful Premier Goodwood mattress boasts pocket springs at its core, working to provide excellent posture enhancing comfort and support. On the very top, there is a "Pillow Top", a built-in layer of luxurious fillings that feel cloud-like and luxurious. This mattress is completely recyclable and is made from only natural fillings. Hypnos has been at the forefront of sustainable bed making, and this Premier mattress is no different, boasting sustainable Solotex, a fleece of British wool and eOlus recycled fibres, Himalayan allo, kapok and cotton. It is also completely environmentally friendly and does not contain glue or chemicals.

Hypnos mattresses are always pocket-sprung and use the elegant ReActive turn pocket spring units. These springs will get firmer and more supportive as more weight is applied, effortlessly ensuring great support at all times. The Hypnos Premier Goodwood mattress uses a 6-turn Reactive spring unit, with each of the 1200 pocket springs having six turns apiece. The more turns in a Hypnos spring unit, the more responsive the springs. This mattress also has "triple edge support" to ensure you can sleep right up to the edge of the mattress, without the mattress feeling like it will give way.

The Premier Goodwood mattress is finished in an unbleached cotton and viscose cover, with a tailored border with 2-rows of genuine hand side-stitching. This mattress is fire-resistant without the use of any chemicals at all.

This is a no-turn, pillow-top mattress. Although the mattress does not require flipping over, we strongly recommend rotating the mattress every three months, with extra rotations in the first few weeks after purchase, to allow the natural fibre fillings in the mattress to settle correctly. MyNextMattress will deliver the excellent Premier Goodwood mattress to your room of choice for free* with a 2-person team.

A good mattress but it is quite deep
This is a lovely mattress - no question - but it is quite deep and so we're thinking of getting a slightly shallower bed base now.

Glossary

  • Fibre Most mattresses will have layers of fillings under the surface to increase comfort and separate the spring units from the surface. The most common fillings used in mattresses are cotton, wool and polyester among others. Mattresses require fillings to create a soft surface tension on which to sleep. The fillings normally compliment the internal spring unit by adding comfort to the support offered (by the spring unit) The tension of the surface fillings can be tuned by the density in which they are packed as well as by the method in which they are bound together. Tufting results in a slightly firmer feel than quilting.
  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

  • Guarantee (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Guarantee extends for a Decade. Your new Hypnos mattress or base will have a leaflet with more information, as well as a form to be completed and sent to Hypnos directly.

  • Handles (Hypnos)

All Hypnos mattresses have handles stitched into them, to help with movement. Hypnos mattresses are heavier than the average mattress, and the handles will help with movement, turning and rotating.

  • Pillow Top

A pillow top mattress is a relatively new development in the bedding industry. Originally the technique applied to the more expensive mattresses, the technique has been perfected to such an extent that the prices have fallen the Pillow Top is much more widely available. Known as the Euro Top by American retailers, the design was originally on the wider market a few years ago, and is now a common site in bedrooms around the World. The idea is to separate the surface fillings from the core of the mattress itself. This results in more support and more comfort. Many traditional mattresses fasten the surface fillings to the spring unit in the mattress. A Pillow Top mattress has a distinct separate layer for the fillings and therefore reacts independently to the spring unit, resulting in less dipping and a solid feel. The technique also offers greater edge-to-edge support.

Pillow tops can take many forms nowadays. A deep layer on the surface which contains memory foam. Another technique of Pillow Top mattress is the Silentnight Treasure mattress. A shallower, quilt like style. All in all, this type of mattress is continuing to go from strength to strength and would appear to be here to stay.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Royal Warrant

    See 'Queen'.

  • Side Stitched

Side Stitching is the way in which the side of a mattress is finished. A traditional process, the Side Stitching technique applied by many high-end companies, is a highly-skilled profession and takes time and a great deal of experience to perfect. The technique involves passing a needle through the side of a mattress right the way through to the horizontal surfaces for additional strength and stability. This technique is normally the reserve of expensive, high-end mattresses.

Another technique applied more commonly in mid-range mattresses, is to simply attach the stitching to the spring unit in the mattress. Other manufacturers may simply use a material on the side of the mattress which appears to be side stitched, but actually is not.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.

  • Turns (Hypnos)

This relates to the ReActive and UltraSens spring units. The term Turn is the number of points that the spring has been heat treated, therefore the number of pressure thresholds it can respond to.
