Product Description
THIS ITEM IS NOW DISCONTINUED
The Mammoth Performance 20 mattress is designed to offer the very best level of support and comfort possible. This uncompromised approach started with a blank sheet, as Mammoth created a radical new type of mattress with the specific goal of improving the quality of sleep and regeneration. Mammoth is now the standard for athletes and medical professionals alike.
The Mammoth Performance 20 is available in a Medium or Firm tension. This choice of firmness will not effect the comfort nor support of the mattress, and is simply a choice to be made according to personal preference. A Mammoth mattress will provide excellent support no matter than firmness you select.
The unique specification and design of a Mammoth mattress sees the V-Max technology used to provide the body with support exactly where it is required. This design can be seen on the surface of this no-turn mattress. The block like forms are there to aid the precise movement of the foam, as well as ensuring a comfortable heat level is maintained. If weight is applied to a normal block of foam, the foam sinks in over a large area, with the Mammoth V-Max blocks, the energy is concentrated into blocks and is therefore focussed on a more precise area, resulting in more precise support. This process improves support by up to 20%.
The cover of the mattress is quilted, further increasing the luxury feel. This cover material is a Tencel fibre cover. Tencel is a natural fibre, which has excellent heat and moisture control properties. This fabric is also hypoallergenic.
We deliver for free, and we deliver with a 2-man delivery service, which sees the goods taken to the room of choice and the packaging taken away.

- Superb SupportI always had a bad back, but the mattresses I have spent a fortune on did nothing to help. This Mammoth mattress has seemingly solved the problem within 2 week and continues to improve the strength of my lower back, following a motorcycle accident.

Glossary
- Fillings
The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.
- Memory Foam
Memory Foam was invented by NASA in 1966. The idea was to improve the safety of aircraft cushions, but it was not long before th material was developed further and used in more and more products. Memory Foam is an open cell construction, which reacts to body heat and weight. The more heat applied, the softer the material gets. This, in turn, allows the weight applied to sink deeper. Memory Foam can be made at various densities to result in different tensions/firmnesses.
The crucial element of Memory Foam is that it softens and moulds to the body shape. This ability allows for very accurate contour support and weight distribution. This ability makes Memory Foam a desirable material for mattresses. Some mattresses are completely Memory Foam, perhaps using different layers of various densities. Some mattresses use Memory Foam to compliment a Spring Unit.
As Memory Foam requires heat to achieve its desired state, the heat is stored. Some people are not keen on Memory Foam as this heat can gradually build, resulting in a warm bed. However, this stereotype can be seen as outdated, as many manufacturers have solved the issue by applying new techniques to compliment the Foam. Techniques such as Outlast and Coolmax. Memory Foam is also Hypoallergenic and is therefore very popular with Asthma and Allergy sufferers.
- Orthopaedic
Orthopaedic mattresses are usually the firmest mattresses on the market. A common mistake made by those with back pain, is to assume that a firm Orthopaedic mattress will be the solution. Personal comfort and a correct diagnosis of the cause of the pain should always be saught before purchasing an Orthopaedic mattress.
Many brands have 'Ortho' mattresses. Terms used include 'Backcare' or 'Orthocare' and the theme is generally to produce a firmer feeling mattress. The idea is to create a mattress that the body can rest on without sinking in and bending the spine, causing pressure to build up. However, if a lighter person lays on a firmer mattress, they will find the spine will not align correctly as the loaded parts of the body (shoulders, hips etc) are not sitting correctly. For more information on the causes of back pain, click here or read about another solution in the Zoning description. - Pressure Points
Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).
When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight. - Rebound
This is the term we use to describe the speed at which the mattress returns to its natural shape after pressure is applied.
- Reflex Foam
Reflex Foam is a man made material designed to offer support and comfort. Created from polyurethane with additional chemicals, Reflex Foam is very similar to Memory Foam. Reflex Foam reacts to body heat, the warmer it gets, the softer it becomes. As a result, Reflex Foam mattresses have commonly developed over the years to compensate for what many believed to be a hot sleeping surface.
The area directly in contact with the body warms to soften up. This softening results in the foam moulding and supporting the body. The support then results in comfort by aligning the spine correctly and avoids creating pressure points.
- Tension
Another word for Firmness.
