Product Description

The Relyon Barton Ortho Pocket 1000 Mattress. This supportive pocket sprung mattress delivers reliably firm orthopaedic support every night as well as offering sumptuous comfort. Relyon has created the Barton Ortho mattress to offer an excellent mattress at an excellent price. The Barton 1000 does not compromise on comfort nor support, and enhances posture throughout the night, preventing aches and pains from forming.

The 1000 Pocket Springs provide excellent, consistent Orthopaedic and Postural support. Pocket springs are small individual springs enclosed in a cotton fabric covering, as such they do not interfere with their surrounding springs when under compression, meaning they're completely independent and therefore there is no compromise in the support they offer. Each spring moves individually to one another, up and down like a piston, mirroring the contours of your body as well as helping to prevent roll-off.

The 1000 Relyon pocketed springs are further supported by a layer of hypo-allergenic Superflex foam. This foam layer adds further to the support and comfort offered by the pocket springs, as well as helping reduce the effects of dust-mites, making it perfect for allergy sufferers too! The Barton Ortho 1000 is also filled with luxurious, deep layers of a natural cotton blend made with cotton and soft white fibre. With cooling properties, these layers aid mattress breathability and help to wick away moisture. This helps to regulate the temperature of both the mattress and the sleeper so that you can remain at a comfortable temperature throughout the night.

This mattress is enhanced by the use of firm edge support - firm springs along the sides of the mattress add strength to the edges of the mattress enabling you to use the whole of the sleeping surface of the Barton Ortho 1000 without worrying about the edge collapsing!

This Relyon mattress is complete with traditionally hand-tufted wool tufts and the 2 rows of side-stitching ensures that this mattress is made to a high standard.

If the incredible specification wasn't enough for you, Relyon offer an 10-year manufacturer's guarantee to give you complete peace of mind!

    Firm but not solid
Perfect for us, it is firm but not too hard and the mattress has a nice layer on top which feels very welcoming when getting in to bed.

Glossary

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Hypoallergenic

Put simply, Hypoallergenic materials do not cause the amount of irritation that non-hypoallergenic materials can. Hypoallergenic materials can still cause irritation in some cases, the chances of this are reduced greatly. People with severe allergies and asthma may still have problems with items called hypoallergenic, but the risk is greatly reduced.

Hypoallergenic materials do not omit the same particles and fibres as other non-hypoallergenic materials. These particles are to blame for causing irritation and discomfort and in some cases the irritation can be dangerous. The Hypoallergenic properties of these materials can be created by number of techniques. Some materials (Memory Foam or Latex) are naturally hypoallergenic, others have been chemically treated.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.
