Product Description

The Relyon Vienna Ortho mattress is designed to offer those how to prefer a firmer feeling mattress, something that boasts a superb specification at a great price. Whilst this excellent mattress has wonderful details, fillings and a supportive feel, it does not compromise on comfort. The Vienna Ortho mattress is hand-made, supremely high quality and is a credit to Relyon, one of the most famous and long-standing bed makers in the UK. The Vienna Ortho mattress offers orthopaedic support and is designed for those who truly want a firm mattress.

The Vienna Ortho contains a layer of centre tied pocket springs. Nestled in a honeycomb pattern, the pockets are then tied with linen cord, allowing each individual pocket to move independently. Each Pocket Spring moves up and down like a piston as weight is applied, to perfectly mirror the contours of the body and ensure posture enhancing support is offered at all times, preventing aches and pains from forming during the night.

Relyon has applied layer upon layer of luxurious, natural fillings to the mattress. Featuring a range of high grade, quality fillings such as Lambs Wool for the softest feel, keeping you warm at night but cool in the summer. Cotton is also used which is exceptionally breathable yet highly absorbent, Cotton also helps control body temperature through its moisture-wicking properties. A layer of resilient foam is also added for a supportive surface feel. With added anti-allergenic fibres underneath the mattress cover, a dust-free and sterilised layer ideal for allergy sufferers ensures this mattress offers all that is possible to provide a great nights sleep.

The Relyon Vienna Ortho needs turning once per Season (although we recommend this is done more often in the first weeks after delivery). Turning and rotating the mattress helps spread the wear evenly by changing the area on which you sleep every time you turn it. This also allows natural settlement of the mattresses fillings to spread back out.

The Vienna Ortho is hand-tufted by Relyon, keeping the mattress at a set tension and also ensuring the fillings remain in place throughout its long life span. The Vienna Ortho also features two rows of genuine side stitching to increase the strength of the sidewalls of the mattress. Methods that are used in higher-end mattresses to further add strength and reliability.

Finally, the Relyon Vienna Ortho features Silver plus anti-bacterial protection that combats and dramatically reduces microbial growth, providing you with a fresh and hygienic sleeping environment. Relyon offers you an 15-year guarantee for your peace of mind whether bought with a divan set or just the mattress.

    Firm mattress!
This is a firm mattress that took some getting used to. I thought we'd made a mistake in ordering it! After a week or so though, we are more than pleased and my partner's back pains are gone.

Glossary

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Hypoallergenic

Put simply, Hypoallergenic materials do not cause the amount of irritation that non-hypoallergenic materials can. Hypoallergenic materials can still cause irritation in some cases, the chances of this are reduced greatly. People with severe allergies and asthma may still have problems with items called hypoallergenic, but the risk is greatly reduced.

Hypoallergenic materials do not omit the same particles and fibres as other non-hypoallergenic materials. These particles are to blame for causing irritation and discomfort and in some cases the irritation can be dangerous. The Hypoallergenic properties of these materials can be created by number of techniques. Some materials (Memory Foam or Latex) are naturally hypoallergenic, others have been chemically treated.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.
