Product Description

The Sealy Nostromo 1400 mattress is a superb pillow top mattress from Sealy’s Pocket collection. Featuring a 1400 pocket spring system, the springs are specifically designed to offer luxurious comfort and excellent support. The pocket springs move individually, which allows the mattress to provide precise zoned support where your body needs it the most. Unirail encases the springs to extend the sleep surface and provide added durability to the outer edges.

In addition, the Nostromo also includes natural Latex. Latex, works in conjunction with the pocket springs to mould to the contours of the body. More so, this layer supports the spine and further enhances the luxurious feel of the bed.

This Sealy mattress is complete with a quilted, soft, stretch knit fabric that is as tactile as it is luxurious. Nestled in the fabric of the mattress is Tencel, an eco-fibre that works to keep you cool and dry during the night. Working alongside Tencel fibres is Adaptive. Adaptive technology absorbs moisture to regulate your temperature and keep you cool. And finally, endorsed by Allergy UK, Purotex works to keep your mattress clean, fresh and odour free- so that over time your mattress feels just as good as the day you placed it in your home.

This a non-turn mattress, so it does not need flipping over, but will require rotating once every 3 months or so, which will ensure the surface remains even and the support remains perfect! We stock this mattress in a variety of sizes, including single, double, king size and more - just choose your size and order online! The Nostromo 1400 Pocket mattress has a guarantee of 5 years as standard.

Who Is This Mattress Best Suited For?

This mattress is ideal for those looking for the perfect balance of comfort and support. As this is a no-turn mattress, it is also perfect for those who want low maintenance or are physically unable to lift the mattress over. Remember, we do all the lifting and unpacking when we deliver to you!

    Medium firmness, but short lived
We bought our Nostromo mattress at the start of 2019 and are now looking to replace it. I agree that the firmness is around the Medium mark. The first nights' sleep on this matress was perfect but unfortunately that was very short lived for me as it was never that good again. My partner was happy so I put up wth it but after 3 years there is noticeable sagging on both sides. I spin the mattress frequently and when it's on the "bad" side, I wake up in the morning and my back is aching.

    Could be softer
The bed is comfortable however firmer than I thought, hoping it loosens up sooner than later

    Great Mattress - Great Sevice
Really comfortable mattress, firmer than expected but that's preferable for me.
Best price and excellent service, arrived exactly when scheduled and guys were really helpful.

    Got there
Bought this from MNM in May & it was, in my opinion, very firm. I wasn't sure I could adapt, but stuck with it and now I love it. It took a good month before I could really say I was happy. I don't have back problems and wanted a softer mattress but despite this, I've grown to love getting into bed.

Can you remove the pillow cusahion to wash it?

No, this is built into the mattress itself. It cannot be removed.

Do you deliver to Northern Ireland? Will this situation change in January 2021?

We can deliver to Northern Ireland, however, there is an extra delivery cost of £80.

Does this mattress work with fitted sheets or is it too deep?

Yes it does. This mattress is deeper than average (at 30cm compared to 24cm average) but modern fitted sheets will be fine.

Hey, We are very interested in this product and would like to purchase from you. But being a mattress we are keen to try it out. We have been in contact with Sealy and there are no stores even vaguely near by. Would it be possible to return the item (never going to happen) if there is a miss-match with comfort for us? Cheers D

Glossary

  • Foam Encapsulation

Foam Encapsulation is a recent addition to the bedding market. An idea designed to offer greater edge-to-edge support as well offering greater Bedstead/Slatted base compatibility.

The idea is simple; Create a spring unit and then sit it in a 'matchbox' of Foam. As you can see in the diagram below, the spring unit is surrounded on all sides by a layer of Memory Foam. This foam gives a solid, stable feel to the mattress and allows the spring unit to be completely separated from the mattresses fillings and cushion.

Once the spring unit is set in the foam and the foam glued together, it can be surrounded by fillings and fibre to create the traditional look for a mattress or can be given a Pillow Top for even more comfort.

  • Latex

Latex is the ultimate in luxurious natural materials (but can be synthetic in other markets). Latex is actually found in more than 10% of flowering plants around the world. About 20,000 species from more than 40 families. The Latex used in the bedding industry is taken from sustainable sources. Latex is perfect for mattresses because it is soft, hypoallergenic, natural and moulds to the shape of the body.

Latex used in bedding also tends to be treated in such a way that it can be used by people who have Latex allergies! The technique used is to super heat the Latex unit, freeze it, super heat it and freeze it again. Once this process is complete, the harmful chemicals released can be chemically washed off, leaving it suitable for everyone. Latex is the material Memory Foam has tried to copy. Memory foam  requires heat to mould to the shape of your body and can therefore become too warm for some. Latex does not require heat and is soft at any temperature. As a natural material which requires time and various processes to be extracted, Latex can be more expensive that its rival materials, but the comfort levels achieved are well worth it.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.
