Product Description
The Vispring Herald Superb is one of the more popular Vispring mattresses. Made to the same supremely high standards that have lead Vispring to be the benchmark in the bed industry, this mattress is absolutely exquisite. The Herald Superb boasts layer upon layer of natural fillings, applied by hand, as well as a pocket spring unit. It was the founder of Vispring who invented the pocket spring, so you can be assured of the support and comfort this mattress will provide. The durability is without question but backed by a stunning 30-year guarantee nonetheless.
This Vispring mattress is handmade in Plymouth and finished to a higher standard than any mattress from any other supplier. The Herald Superb will provide cloud-like comfort as well as posture-enhancing support and will do so effortlessly. The 1476 pocket springs at the core of the Vispring Herald Superb Pocket Sprung mattress will move and conform to the contours of the body with ease, supporting you where required and preventing pressure points from forming, the cause of aches and pains in the morning.
The Herald Superb mattress is available in a choice of three firmness levels, Soft, Medium and Firm. Whilst Vispring does have a guideline as to the intended user (Soft up to 11 stone (70kg), Medium up to 16 stone (102kg) and Firm up to 20 stone (127kg)), ultimately, the selection is down to the user and your own personal preference, as a Vispring mattress will offer comfort and support unlike any other. Designed to be more luxurious than some other brands, a Vispring mattress will feel relatively soft compared to other first-class mattresses, but we are on hand to assist with any questions and to offer any advice you need. Plus, remember we offer a sleep trial on all our mattresses - Vispring included.
Vispring has applied layer upon layer of natural, breathable fillings to this mattress to provide an incredible level of comfort. The fillings include cotton, Horsehair and British fleece wool. These fillings are breathable, so the mattress will remain cool and comfortable at all times. The other added benefit of these fillings is that they're naturally able to remain cool in the summer and warm in the winter, as well as deterring bed bugs and dust mites.
This mattress has been hand tufted for durability and consistency in firmness, and Vispring has also applied two rows of side-stitched borders to increase the strength of the sidewall. There are breather vents on the sides to keep the air flowing through the mattress. There are also handles to aid movement when required. As a turnable mattress, the Herald Superb will require turning and rotating once per season, alternating between the two, but we recommend this is done fortnightly for the first two months to ensure even settlement.
The Vispring Herald Superb Mattress is available in the following sizes: Small Single, Single, Small Double, Double, King Size, Euro King Size, Super King Size, and Emperor Size.

Glossary
- Breathability
Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.
Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.
Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings. - Fillings
The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.
- Firmness
MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.
We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.
The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.
Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.
As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else. - Flag Stitched
Flag Stitching is the method in which handles are sewn to the sides of mattresses.
Flag Stitching is a robust and durable method normally the reserve of more expensive mattresses (due to the extra time and skill required). - Pocket Sprung
Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.
By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.
If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same. - Pressure Points
Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).
When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight. - Side Stitched
Side Stitching is the way in which the side of a mattress is finished. A traditional process, the Side Stitching technique applied by many high-end companies, is a highly-skilled profession and takes time and a great deal of experience to perfect. The technique involves passing a needle through the side of a mattress right the way through to the horizontal surfaces for additional strength and stability. This technique is normally the reserve of expensive, high-end mattresses.
Another technique applied more commonly in mid-range mattresses, is to simply attach the stitching to the spring unit in the mattress. Other manufacturers may simply use a material on the side of the mattress which appears to be side stitched, but actually is not. - Tufted
Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.
The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress. - Turn / No Turn
Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
