The pinnacle of sustainable, natural mattress comfort, the Orthos Origins 9 mattress is an incredible firmer feel mattress, built with responsive pocket springs and sumptuous natural fibres. Made using sustainable and 100% recyclable materials, the Orthos Origins 9 mattress proves that incredible luxury and an excellent night's sleep do not have to come at the expense of our environment.
The Orthos Origins 9 uses a ReActive™ 9 Turn firm pocket spring system as the primary body of support. These high-quality springs have been engineered to provide a firmer level of support and placed expertly by hand to provide tailored pressure relief across the whole body. This support extends right to the edges of the Orthos Origins 9, assisted by three rows of genuine hand side-stitching in the border, allowing you to utilise the whole of the sleeping surface to starfish to your heart's content.
The main event in any Hypnos mattress is the natural fibre fillings. Only the finest materials will do for the Orthos Origins 9. Hand-packed in generous layers by Hypnos' expert craftspeople. the Orthos Origins 9 mattress features a whopping 3 fleeces (6kg) of traceable British Wool, a soft comfort layer of organic cotton with flax and hemp, and an eOlus™ recycled fibre comfort pad. British wool is a wonderful material that is not only comfortable and cushioning but also sustainable and naturally cooling. Atop the wool, soft organic cotton is layered with flax and hemp. This layer furthers the natural properties of the wool, keeping you cool and dry whilst gently cushioning you without losing the firm tension of the mattress. This cotton layer is complemented further with an eOlus recycled fibre comfort pad, which only adds to the luxury of this Hypnos mattress.
The Orthos Origins 9 mattress is available in two tensions. The standard "firm" tension and a slightly firmer, "Extra Firm" tension. The specification remains the same, however, the fillings are packed with a slightly different method to create a slightly harder, but no less luxurious, feel to the Orthos Origins 9. This is a turnable mattress, that should be turned and rotated seasonally, however, we recommend turning more regularly immediately after purchase to allow the natural fibres to settle correctly.

- Active Turns (Hypnos)
The Hypnos Spring Unit is a special design. With a conventional spring, a continued application of pressure will compress the spring completely. With a Hypnos spring, you can apply a certain amount of pressure and collapse the spring only so far, you have to apply more pressure to compress the spring further.
This gradual and progressive response from the spring allows for perfect support - not too firm, not too soft. The spring has been treated with various thresholds throughout, known as Active Turns, and it is these Active Turns that allow for the perfect amount of support.
- Fibre Most mattresses will have layers of fillings under the surface to increase comfort and separate the spring units from the surface. The most common fillings used in mattresses are cotton, wool and polyester among others. Mattresses require fillings to create a soft surface tension on which to sleep. The fillings normally compliment the internal spring unit by adding comfort to the support offered (by the spring unit) The tension of the surface fillings can be tuned by the density in which they are packed as well as by the method in which they are bound together. Tufting results in a slightly firmer feel than quilting.

This relates to the ReActive and UltraSens spring units. The term Turn is the number of points that the spring has been heat treated, therefore the number of pressure thresholds it can respond to.
