Product Description
The Dura Beds Air Plus Gel 2000 Mattress is a great new addition to the Dura Beds Collection. This mattress is a supportive, quilted mattress with a 2000 Pocket Spring unit, but the main benefit of this mattress is its ability to remain cool throughout the night. The Air Plus Gel 2000 mattress has various additions and details which allow it to thermoregulate and keep you comfortable, even in the warmer months.
This Dura Beds mattress is designed with temperature in mind. With it's luxuriously comfortable Air Plus Gel layer, cooling cover and a breather vent on all sides, this mattress does all it can to keep you comfortable. As well as those factors, this mattress has a Pocket Sprung unit at its core. These springs mean there is a lot of air in the mattress, free to move around thanks to the breather vents, and as you move in the night, the mattress pulls fresh air through, keeping you cooler still.
The 2000 Pocket Springs inside this popular mattress all move up and down like pistons. As weight is applied, they will compress to the precise level required. Because they're set within their own fabric 'pocket', they will not move unless you do, which means the support is very precise, no spring will move as a result of its neighbouring springs moving, leaving the springs free to concentrate on a very precise area of the body. The outcome is the promotion of good posture and the prevention of ache inducing pressure points from forming.
Dura Beds has layered this mattress with Air Plus Gel, designed to allow air to move through it freely, drawing away heat and moisture whilst remaining comfortable at all times. There is also a layer of natural fibre fillings acting as the bridge between the springs and the gel above.
All of these details result in a very comfortable and supportive mattress, but Dura Beds has gone a step further and foam encapsulated this mattress. Foam Encapsulation is the process of building a 'match-box' frame for the mattress, which increases the strength of the sidewalls and the overall strength of the mattress. Indeed, this process actually increases the size of the comfortable sleeping surface by as much as 10%, as you can comfortably sleep right up to the edge of the mattress.
This is a turnable mattress, needing to be flipped over and rotated once per season, alternating between the two processes. We recommend this is done more often in the early weeks after delivery to ensure even settlement. There are handles for easy movement when needed.

Glossary
- Breathability
Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.Â
Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.
Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings. - Fillings
The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.
- Foam Encapsulation
Foam Encapsulation is a recent addition to the bedding market. An idea designed to offer greater edge-to-edge support as well offering greater Bedstead/Slatted base compatibility.
The idea is simple; Create a spring unit and then sit it in a 'matchbox' of Foam. As you can see in the diagram below, the spring unit is surrounded on all sides by a layer of Memory Foam. This foam gives a solid, stable feel to the mattress and allows the spring unit to be completely separated from the mattresses fillings and cushion.Â
Once the spring unit is set in the foam and the foam glued together, it can be surrounded by fillings and fibre to create the traditional look for a mattress or can be given a Pillow Top for even more comfort. - Pocket Sprung
Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.
By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.
If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same. - Tufted
Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.
The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress. - Tufts
This is the dimple like way of binding the various layers of the mattress together. A cord is fasted from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and held tightly in place.
- Turn / No Turn
Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
