Product Description

Struggle to sleep in the hot weather? Can't get comfortable in the cold winter nights? The Dura Beds Climate Control 1000 Mattress might be the answer to your problems. This excellent mattress has a winter side and a summer side, both of which are supremely comfortable and supportive. This mattress is hand made in Yorkshire and finished to a very high standard indeed.

The Climate Control mattress is a two-sided mattress. One side should be the sleeping surface in the warmer months and the other side should be used in the cooler months. The 'summer side' has a deep, comfortable layer of iGel foam, which offers a sumptuous feel, soft and luxurious. This gel is open-celled, and so air can freely flow through, keeping it cool and comfortable. Not only this, but the summer side is finished with Ice Fabric, which does exactly what the name suggests. This fabric is almost cold to the touch and will draw away excess heat and moisture when you're too warm. The winter side of this mattress feels just as comfortable, but has a deep layer of memory foam and fibre fillings, holding on to some of the warmth and creating a comfortable sleeping environment. This side if finished in a stretch-knit cover.

Built around a 1000 Pocket Spring unit, this mattress has the support required to offer a rejuvenating night's sleep, leaving you to awake refreshed and revitalised. The springs will move up and down as weight is applied, perfectly mirroring the contours of the body and preventing aches and pains from forming through lack of support. The springs are all kept within their own fabric 'pockets' which means they cannot move due to a surrounding spring moving, which means the support is uncompromised and very accurate.

Dura Beds has finished this mattress with a perimeter belt of AirFlow ventilation, which further allows air to move freely through it, keeping the mattress fresh at all times. As this is a turnable mattress, there are handles on the sides for easy movement when required.

Glossary

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Foam Encapsulation

Foam Encapsulation is a recent addition to the bedding market. An idea designed to offer greater edge-to-edge support as well offering greater Bedstead/Slatted base compatibility.

The idea is simple; Create a spring unit and then sit it in a 'matchbox' of Foam. As you can see in the diagram below, the spring unit is surrounded on all sides by a layer of Memory Foam. This foam gives a solid, stable feel to the mattress and allows the spring unit to be completely separated from the mattresses fillings and cushion.

Once the spring unit is set in the foam and the foam glued together, it can be surrounded by fillings and fibre to create the traditional look for a mattress or can be given a Pillow Top for even more comfort.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

  • Tufts

This is the dimple like way of binding the various layers of the mattress together. A cord is fasted from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and held tightly in place.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
