J. Marshall No. 1 Mattress

The J. Marshall No. 1 Mattress is a supremely well-made mattress, hand-made by the master craftsmen and women of Vispring. The wonderful new J. Marshall collection pays tribute to the founder of Vispring, the pioneer of the now World famous 'pocket spring'. James Marshall's approach to bed making was one of excellence, and the new J. Marshall range echoes this perfectly. The No. 1 mattress is one of four in the collection, all boasting luxurious fillings, great support and durability.

This mattress has a 1000 pocket spring unit at its core, offering posture-enhancing support, which not only provides a comfortable night's sleep but also promotes recovery, good posture and pressure relief. The pocket sprung method is time tested (thanks to Mr J. Marshall) and offers benefits that no other spring unit can. The springs move independently of one another, compressing as weight is applied to conform to the body's contours as weight is applied. This happens instantly and according to the weight that is applied in that area only. The Vispring pocket springs are kept apart thanks to the fabric 'pocket' they are held in, so as one spring compresses it will not affect its surrounding springs, so the support is absolutely precise, no compromise.

The Number One mattress has deep layers of natural fillings applied by hand. These luxury fillings include Cotton and Wool and have been applied by hand so to ensure an even, consistent and durable sleeping surface. The Wool and Cotton fillings provide comfort and support, but they are also breathable (ensuring the mattress remains cool throughout the night) and are naturally resistant to bed bugs and dust mites. This is a turnable mattress, so the fillings are on both sides.

This is a tufted mattress, hence the 'dimple' like features on the surface. This hand-finished technique is not only time consuming but is one of the most skilled jobs in the Vispring factory. The tufts maintain a precise firmness to the mattress and increase the durability, preventing the fillings from shifting over time.

This the mattress has handles for easy movement when required as well as breather vents to enhance the ventilation through the mattress. The surface is finished in a wonderfully comfortable damask, which is a woven fabric as comfortable and tactile as it is durable.

At 21cm deep, the J. Marshall No. 1 mattress is suitable for use with any bed linen and can be used on any type of base (slatted bases can have no more than a 7cm gap between the slats). This is a turnable mattress, which will need turning or rotating once per season (although we recommend this is done more often in the first few weeks after delivery).
