J. Marshall No. 4 Mattress

James Marshall was the founder of Vispring and the pioneer of the Pocket Spring. This new range is a tribute to him, and Vispring has created a truly excellent range of mattresses in his name. The No. 4 mattress is built around 3100 pocket springs and has layer upon layer of wonderfully comfortable, natural fillings applied by hand. As a no-turn mattress, the Number Four has the fillings concentrated on to one side of the mattress only, and so they're applied generously. The filings are worthy of the top of the range mattress and include Wool, Pashmina, Bamboo and Alpaca. All of these fillings have been selected for their natural properties of breathability, temperature management - and above all else - comfort. Wool is particularly good at remaining cool in the summer months and is also resistant to dust mites and bed bugs. Bamboo is super-soft and extremely good at remaining cool, pulling excess heat away from the bed. Pashmina and Alpaca need no introduction, long the reserve of luxury bedding and clothing.

The 3100 pocket springs at the core of this mattress will support the body effortlessly, enhancing posture and promoting circulation, both of which are vital to a restful night's sleep and full recuperation. There is a 1600 Pocket Spring unit at the core of the mattress, and a further 1500 mini-pocket springs at the top to fine-tune the comfort on offer. The springs designed by Mr J. Marshall work independently from one another, moving like pistons as weight is applied, up and down to conform to the body's contours. Pocket Springs have long been known as the best spring to use in a bed, as the support provided is instant, accurate and silent. Each spring sits within its own 'pocket' of fabric and will not move as it's neighbours are compressed, meaning there is no compromise at all.

This is a tufted mattress. Tufting is a highly skilled job, requiring the attention of a master craftsman or woman, and luckily Vispring has those in abundance. The tufts are in place to keep the mattress at a set tension, as well as ensuring the fillings remain in place at all times. The dimples on the surface of the mattress are the end of the tuft cords and are padded with luxuriously soft wool.

This is a no-turn mattress which only requires rotating (spinning around) once per season, although we recommend this is done more often in the early weeks after delivery to ensure the settlement is even. There are flag stitched handles to aid movement when required. There are also breather vents on the sides of this mattress to further aid movement of air, keeping the mattress cool and comfortable as well as fresh throughout it's long life span.
