Product Description

The Dura Beds Silver Active 2800 Mattress is a superbly well-made mattress, finished to the highest standards and made for a luxurious, yet supportive feel. This mattress is part of the Natural Collection, a range which offers high-quality mattresses at a great price, using natural materials and fillings. The Silver Active 2800 has a Pocket Spring unit at its core and is finished in an anti-bacterial infused cover.

The Silver Active 2800 mattress is a Pillow Top mattress, boasting a surface layer of deep fillings, which include Wool and Cotton. This Pillow Top layer might appear to be removable, but it is built-in. The purpose of this layer is to allow a deep pad of fillings that are semi-detached from the springs at the core of the mattress, allowing the fillings to remain looser and softer than normal.

The 2800 springs in this mattress are made up of two layers of springs. The 2000 springs form the main layer, supportive and firmer than the 800 springs on top, which are softer, smaller and do more of the 'fine-tuning' of the support offered. These two layers combine to create a wonderfully supportive mattress but without being too firm. Each spring in this mattress is able to move up and down like a piston to conform to the movement of the body, perfectly mirroring your contours and promoting good posture, as well as preventing aches and pains.

Dura Beds has finished this mattress in a silky-smooth and tactile fabric that is durable and comfortable. This fabric has also been infused with Silver Active, an ingredient which is completely natural and prevents odours and bacteria from forming. This natural infusion results in a fresh mattress at all times as well as forming a hypo-allergenic barrier.

The Dura Beds Silver Active 2800 Mattress is a no-turn mattress, only requiring rotation once per season (although we recommend this is done weekly for the first month after delivery). There are handles on the sides of the mattress to aid movement when required, as well as breather vents to further aid heat and moisture management.

I have had this mattress for a week now and it is very comfortable. Its soft - medium and the delivery and price from MNM was very good. Only thing is I have noticed a slight bit of dipping in the middle of the mattress already which is disappointing after only one weeks use.

Glossary

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

  • Tufts

This is the dimple like way of binding the various layers of the mattress together. A cord is fasted from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and held tightly in place.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
