Product Description

The Luxury Wool 800 Mattress is a new mattress within the Natural Collection from Dura Beds. This mattress is hand made in Yorkshire and finished to a very high standard. The combination of 800 supportive Pocket Springs and layers of luxurious wool results in a wonderfully comfortable mattress that will ensure excellent support and a restful night's sleep.

This mattress has 800 Pocket Springs at its core, all working like pistons, up and down as weight is applied to perfectly cradle the body and mirror its contours, which prevents pressure points from forming and promotes good posture. The springs are held within their own fabric 'pocket', which keeps them apart from each other and ensures there is no compromise on the support, each spring has a specific area to support.

Dura Beds has hand applied deep layers of soft Wool to this mattress. Wool is an excellent material to use in mattresses as it is not only soft and luxurious but also breathable and thermoregulating. Because Wool is thermoregulating, it is able to remain cool in the summer and warm in the winter, perfect for a mattress. Wool is also very good at naturally deterring bed bugs and dust mites, which will help the mattress stay fresh throughout the years.

The Luxury Wool 800 has been tufted, which sees a cord passed through the mattress to bind the fillings and springs in place, keeping the mattress at a precise firmness level as well as increasing the durability. This is a turnable mattress, so there are handles on the sides for easy movement when required. This mattress should be turned and rotated, alternating between the two once per season (although we recommend that this process is done more often in the first few weeks after delivery).

The Luxury Wool 800 mattress is finished in a tactile, soft and very comfortable knitted fabric, adding a final touch of luxury to this superb mattress.

Glossary

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

  • Tufts

This is the dimple like way of binding the various layers of the mattress together. A cord is fasted from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and held tightly in place.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
