Product Description

THIS ITEM IS NOW DISCONTINUED.

The Sealy Derwent is another model designed by Sealy for the Hotel and B&B industry. Due to the popularity of this model within the contract sector, more and more domestic customers have been enquiring, and we have now added it to our website due to popular demand.

Sealy have developed a range of beds for the Hotel industry that have become a hugely popular collection in their own right. The Derwent is designed to be a firmer feeling bed offering excellent value for money. A contract mattress must offer comfort, value and excellent durability. Sealy have achieved this and much more.

The Sealy Derwent is an Orthopaedic mattress, offering natural fillings and a supportive spring system that prevents aches and pains in the morning. The Derwent has a spring system that has been refined over the years with the help of the American Orthopaedic Advisory Board. This spring system was created to offer a spring unit that will not only offer you perfect posture, and so preventing pressure points from developing, but also to offer a spring system that is movement sensitive. The PostureTech spring unit will minimise the vibrations and energy echoes created when sharing the bed.

Another benefit of the Sealy PostureTech spring unit is the edge support. This spring system has the Sealy Edge Guard design, which will increase the comfortable sleeping surface by increasing the strength of the mattress' side walls.

The surface layer of the Derwent is a deep cushion of natural fillings, deep and sumptuous but packed tightly so not to compromise the firm feel of the mattress. Whilst the surface may be quilted for an even and crisp finish, the fibre layers are compressed to a level that will promote the firmer feel achieved and also ensure durability.

The cover material is a soft and tactile woven knit that has hypoallergenic properties, ideal for hotel guests with allergies and specific requirements. This cover material must stand the test of time in even the busiest of Hotels, so a lengthy warranty adds testament to this high quality detail.

Finally, the Sealy Derwent has handles to aid easy movement (although we complete all lifting and unpacking required upon delivery).

Michelle, We do indeed, and you can see the firmness scale underneath the description of the mattress. We have given this mattress an 'Ortho' status, meaning it is on the firmer end of the scale, in this case 8/10.

Glossary

  • Hypoallergenic

Put simply, Hypoallergenic materials do not cause the amount of irritation that non-hypoallergenic materials can. Hypoallergenic materials can still cause irritation in some cases, the chances of this are reduced greatly. People with severe allergies and asthma may still have problems with items called hypoallergenic, but the risk is greatly reduced.

Hypoallergenic materials do not omit the same particles and fibres as other non-hypoallergenic materials. These particles are to blame for causing irritation and discomfort and in some cases the irritation can be dangerous. The Hypoallergenic properties of these materials can be created by number of techniques. Some materials (Memory Foam or Latex) are naturally hypoallergenic, others have been chemically treated.

  • Orthopaedic

Orthopaedic mattresses are usually the firmest mattresses on the market. A common mistake made by those with back pain, is to assume that a firm Orthopaedic mattress will be the solution. Personal comfort and a correct diagnosis of the cause of the pain should always be saught before purchasing an Orthopaedic mattress.

Many brands have 'Ortho' mattresses. Terms used include 'Backcare' or 'Orthocare' and the theme is generally to produce a firmer feeling mattress. The idea is to create a mattress that the body can rest on without sinking in and bending the spine, causing pressure to build up. However, if a lighter person lays on a firmer mattress, they will find the spine will not align correctly as the loaded parts of the body (shoulders, hips etc) are not sitting correctly. For more information on the causes of back pain, click here or read about another solution in the Zoning description.

  • Quilted / Micro Quilted

Quilting is the stitching technique used to join or attach the mattress' surface layers of fibres to the surface material (the ticking). There are various different techniques which can be used to join these layers, but Quilting is common. Traditionally, Quilting offers a softer surface feel than Tufting as the layers are not held together so tightly. Also see Diamond Stitching or Micro Quilting for variations on Quilting.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
