Product Description

The Avon 3000 is the top of the Raphael range of mattresses, part of the appropriately named "Artisan Collection" from Shire Beds. The Avon 3000 mattress is a mastery of pocket springs, encapsulated with foam for firmer edge support, filled with incredible natural fillings, and finished with a soft touch Viscose cover. Sleep peacefully with the Raphael 3000.

Filled to the brim with 3000 brilliant pocket springs, the Avon 3000 is incredibly supportive. These pocket springs move independently of one another, allowing the mattress to mould to the contours of your body and provide tailored support. Pocket springs alone help to reduce the effect of "roll-off," a common sensation experienced with some older or open-coil spring mattresses, but Shire Beds have taken it one step further and encapsulated the spring system with foam. This provides a firmer edge to the already supportive mattress, increasing the toughness of the mattress sides. This helps to increase the usable area of the mattress surface, giving you more bed to starfish on after a long day!

The Avon 3000 is filled to the brim with natural filling specially chosen for both their softness and their natural abilities. Packed around the pocket springs are layers of cotton, wool, silk, cashmere, and latex. These layers, in particular latex and cotton, have natural cooling properties. These layers help the mattress to breathe by naturally absorbing the heat you produce as you sleep and naturally assisting airflow within the mattress, keeping you cool and dry throughout the night.

The Avon 3000 mattress is finished in a lusciously soft quilted Belgian Viscose Cover that is soft to touch and finishes the mattress surface with aplomb.

Shire Beds back their mattresses with a 5-year warranty, so you can sleep soundly knowing that you are protected should something go wrong.

The Shire Beds Avon 3000 is a no-turn mattress, meaning that only rotation is required. MyNextMattress recommends a seasonal rotation, with increased frequency immediately after purchase to allow the natural fillings to settle.

Glossary

  • Cashmere

A luxury filling, Cashmere Wool is normally the reserve of very high quality mattresses. A natural material that is very comfortable and very durable.

  • Fibre Most mattresses will have layers of fillings under the surface to increase comfort and separate the spring units from the surface. The most common fillings used in mattresses are cotton, wool and polyester among others. Mattresses require fillings to create a soft surface tension on which to sleep. The fillings normally compliment the internal spring unit by adding comfort to the support offered (by the spring unit) The tension of the surface fillings can be tuned by the density in which they are packed as well as by the method in which they are bound together. Tufting results in a slightly firmer feel than quilting.
  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Foam Encapsulation

Foam Encapsulation is a recent addition to the bedding market. An idea designed to offer greater edge-to-edge support as well offering greater Bedstead/Slatted base compatibility.

The idea is simple; Create a spring unit and then sit it in a 'matchbox' of Foam. As you can see in the diagram below, the spring unit is surrounded on all sides by a layer of Memory Foam. This foam gives a solid, stable feel to the mattress and allows the spring unit to be completely separated from the mattresses fillings and cushion.

Once the spring unit is set in the foam and the foam glued together, it can be surrounded by fillings and fibre to create the traditional look for a mattress or can be given a Pillow Top for even more comfort.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Quilted / Micro Quilted

Quilting is the stitching technique used to join or attach the mattress' surface layers of fibres to the surface material (the ticking). There are various different techniques which can be used to join these layers, but Quilting is common. Traditionally, Quilting offers a softer surface feel than Tufting as the layers are not held together so tightly. Also see Diamond Stitching or Micro Quilting for variations on Quilting.

  • Warranty

Every mattress we sell comes with at least a 12 month manufacturers guarantee, though most come with much longer guarantees. To find out what mattress warranty is included with your purchase, look out for the rosette on the top right corner of the mattress page. All new goods are sold with a minimum 12-month manufacturers guarantee. Full details are available on request. In addition to the manufacturers guarantee MyNextMattress offers a limited extended mattress warranty. This warranty varies in length item by item. You must keep all your purchase records as they will be needed in the event of a claim. The warranty is applied as follows:

    • The mattress warranty is against faults in manufacture, not wear and tear or damage.
    • The mattress must always be used with a mattress protector, turned and cleaned as per the manufacturers instructions and must be unsoiled at the time that the claim is lodged.
    • The claim must be registered with MyNextMattress by email or in writing. All details of the claim must be lodged with MyNextMattress by email or in writing.

If the claim is accepted the following process will apply:

    • We will arrange to collect the goods and return them to us for inspection.
    • The carrier reserves the right to refuse to collect items that are not packaged suitably or which is unhygienic.
    • We may require pre payment for the costs of the collection in some circumstances.
    • If we validate the claim we will contact you to arrange the replacement goods to be dispatched to you and delivered to you on a date that is convenient for you.
    • The replacement item can be any item from our then current range.
    • The difference in price from the warranty covered item is payable by you, along with the cost of collecting the original item.

There will be an allowance granted against the replacement item according to the following scale.

    • If the claim is validated within the first two years - 40% of the original price will be credited.
    • If the claim is validated in year three of the purchase -25% of the original price will be credited.
    • If the claim is validated in year four of the purchase - 15% of the original price will be credited.
    • If the claim is validated in year five or (if warranty is for longer than five years then any subsequent year up to the warranty period) -10% of the original price will be credited.

The warranty is only applicable to the original purchaser and is only valid if approved by MyNextMattress. It should be considered as extra peace of mind in case of manufacturing defects that arise after the manufacturers mattress guarantee has expired. It should not be regarded as a guarantee that any item will last for any particular period of time, or as a guarantee against deterioration in performance. It is in addition to your statutory rights. There is no entitlement to a cash payment in lieu of the replacement. The replacement item must be at the same or higher price than the original.
