Product Description

The Dura Beds Backcare Georgia Mattress is part of the Backcare Collection, designed to offer a more supportive feel and a superb price. The Georgia mattress is one of our more popular firm feeling mattresses, and it is easy to see why. The Georgia has a supportive spring unit combined with deep layers of fibre fillings to offer a softer cushion on top but a supportive feel overall.

This mattress is built around a 12.5 gauge Open Coil spring unit, which sees all springs made from one continuous wire. This type of spring is one of the oldest and most commonly used in the bed industry, so you can be sure of durability and efficiency. As weight is applied to the springs, it is instantly dissipated across all springs for immediate support. This spring unit is made from thicker wire than normal, and so the mattress is firmer.

On top of this Dura Beds mattress is a deep cushion of fibre fillings. These fillings are applied by hand to ensure an even and consistent finish. The fibres are soft and luxurious and perfectly compliment the firmer springs underneath. Not only are the fibre fillings very comfortable, but they're also breathable, allowing air to flow through and so keep the mattress cool. Dura Beds has also added an Air Flow border to the Georgia mattress, meaning the sides of the mattress also allow air to freely move through.

This is a turnable mattress, requiring rotation and turning over once per season, alternating between the two. We recommend that this process is done weekly for the first couple of months of the mattresses life to ensure even settlement and additional durability. There are handles for easy movement when required.

The Georgia mattress has a luxuriously soft and tactile cover material, as comfortable as it is durable. This is a quilted mattress with a smooth surface.

Glossary

  • Coil Sprung

An Open Coil spring unit is made from a continuous piece of wire. This wire can be made from various different gauges of wire, resulting in differing firmnesses. The idea behind an Open Coil spring unit, or Continuous Springs as they are sometimes known, is that the spring unit can be made quickly, efficiently and therefore for little cost. Open Coil spring units tend to be the reserve of the entry level models on the market. However, some manufacturers have perfected the technique and the end result is extremely successful.

Open Coil spring units tend to be the reserve of the entry level models on the market. However, some manufacturers have perfected the technique and the end result is extremely successful.

A single piece of wire will be placed in a machine, bent into coils. Each coil will be joined at the top, the bottom or both and the result is a spring unit made of one wire. The reason this works well, is that the springs can support one another and share any weight or pressure across the surface. Other methods of spring units include Twin Sprung or Pocket Sprung.

  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Pillow Top

A pillow top mattress is a relatively new development in the bedding industry. Originally the technique applied to the more expensive mattresses, the technique has been perfected to such an extent that the prices have fallen the Pillow Top is much more widely available. Known as the Euro Top by American retailers, the design was originally on the wider market a few years ago, and is now a common site in bedrooms around the World. The idea is to separate the surface fillings from the core of the mattress itself. This results in more support and more comfort. Many traditional mattresses fasten the surface fillings to the spring unit in the mattress. A Pillow Top mattress has a distinct separate layer for the fillings and therefore reacts independently to the spring unit, resulting in less dipping and a solid feel. The technique also offers greater edge-to-edge support.

Pillow tops can take many forms nowadays. A deep layer on the surface which contains memory foam. Another technique of Pillow Top mattress is the Silentnight Treasure mattress. A shallower, quilt like style. All in all, this type of mattress is continuing to go from strength to strength and would appear to be here to stay.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
