    Product Description

The Merevale 8000 mattress is an incredible new addition to the Harrison Spinks range, and is exclusive to MyNextMattress. The Merevale is a seasonal turn mattress, with a cooler summer side and a warmer winter side. As with all Harrison Spinks mattresses, the Merevale is made with exclusively natural, sustainable fillings and pocket springs to keep your sleep cosy without harming the planet.

The core of the Merevale mattress contains an impressive 8000 pocket springs (in a kingsize). Three types of spring have been used in the Merevale. Advanced Cortec™ Quad revolution springs provide a stable core, allowing the mattress to maintain support even with more restless sleepers. Smaller Posturfil pocket springs add an extra layer of support, finetuning the core springs, whilst HD2500 micro springs contour to the body shape and provide pinpoint accurate pressure relief. This fantastic pocket spring core will keep you suported in either season.

The summer side of the Merevale mattress is differentiated from the winter side by clever placcement of natural fibres, using the materials natural properties to affect the feel of the mattrress. The Summer side features a cooling layer of natural cotton blend close to the sleeping surface. Cotton is commonly used in mattresses to act as a cooling layer due to its naturally occuring properties. The winter side has a British wool and Flax blend layer, which holds onto heat a little more than a pure wool layer. Both sides are nice and breathable too, helping the mattress to stay healthy for longer.

The Merevale 8000 mattress is a Seasonal turn mattress, meaning that it requires turning in spring and autumn. During the respective seasons, we recommend rotating the Merevale at least once between turns. We would also recommend turning the mattress a few times in the first weeks and months after purchase, to allow the natural fibres to settle correctly.

The Merevale mattress is fully recyclable at the end of its life, and has been made using sustainable techniques with responsibly sourced materials.

The Merevale mattress is covered by a 10-year manufacturer's guarantee from Harrison Spinks. This mattress is exclusive to MyNextMattress, and we will deliver the Merevale 8000 mattress to your room of choice for free (offshore charges may apply) with our 2-person crew.

    Glossary

    • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

    • Fibre Most mattresses will have layers of fillings under the surface to increase comfort and separate the spring units from the surface. The most common fillings used in mattresses are cotton, wool and polyester among others. Mattresses require fillings to create a soft surface tension on which to sleep. The fillings normally compliment the internal spring unit by adding comfort to the support offered (by the spring unit) The tension of the surface fillings can be tuned by the density in which they are packed as well as by the method in which they are bound together. Tufting results in a slightly firmer feel than quilting.
    • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

    • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

    • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

    • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

    • Tufts

This is the dimple like way of binding the various layers of the mattress together. A cord is fasted from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and held tightly in place.

    • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
