The Hypnos Pillow Comfort Garnet mattress is a new addition to the excellent, and ever-expanding, Pillow Top collection. This mattress is a stunning example of luxury and support in perfect harmony. The blend between the two is incredibly well balanced and offers both an orthopaedic level of support as well as absolute luxury. The spring unit in the core of this Hypnos mattress is supportive and will prevent aches and pains from forming thanks to the promotion of good posture (the true meaning of orthopaedic), whilst the luxury fillings on top will offer nothing but sublime comfort.

The Hypnos Pillow Comfort Garnet mattress has a ReActive spring system. This spring unit is unique to Hypnos and is designed to work as a conventional pocket spring system would, but with a twist! Pocket springs have become the industry standard for good quality mattresses. They're very simple, yet effective. As weight is applied to a pocket spring, it will compress like a piston, moving up and down as weight is applied. As each spring is within its own fabric pocket, it does not interfere with the neighbouring pocket springs, so not to compromise on the quality of the support offered.
However; Hypnos have evolved the conventional pocket spring, and their springs actually become firmer and more supportive as more weight is applied. The result is that each spring will not only work independently from one another but will actually offer the precise level of support required at that given moment. So your hips and shoulders will exert the most bodyweight into the mattress and they will enjoy the most support. These springs recognise 7different levels of firmness (hence the ReActive 7 Turns).

Hypnos has made a change to their traditional pillow tops of recent years, and have added a layer of mini-springs into the pillow top itself. These mini-springs are designed to offer comfort, rather than support, and give the pillow top more durability and evenness over time. They also ensure the pillow top layer on this Astral mattress will remain 'plump' and fresh looking for many years to come.

As well as a superb spring system, the Pillow Comfort Garnet has a deep pad of luxurious fillings on the surface. As this is a no-turn mattress, Hypnos has been able to focus the fillings on one side only, hand applying the layers to achieve a consistent and level finish. The fillings include soft Cotton and Wool as well as a layer of Solotex fibres, a recycled layer of fibres that is fully breathable and very comfortable. These luxury layers are bound in position by the hand-tufting technique. This process sees a strong cord run through the mattress to hold everything in place. As well as tufting the mattress, Hypnos has hand side stitched it with 2 rows of bordering that increases the strength of the sidewalls and offers a more comfortable sleeping surface, as you can sleep right up to the edge.

This mattress is finished in a silky smooth fabric, which is as tactile as it is durable and breathable. Hypnos have infused this cover material in 37.5 deg technology, a new infusion that maintains a comfortable and ideal micro-climate of 37.5 degC. As you get too warm, it will absorb heat, and as you become too cool it will release it.

There are also breather vents on the sides and handles for easy movement when required, although this mattress only needs rotating once per season (we recommend more often in the first three months to help settlement.

Hypnos have fully backed this mattress with their 10-year guarantee, and we will deliver the Pillow Comfort Garnet for FREE!

    Glossary

    • Active Turns (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Spring Unit is a special design. With a conventional spring, a continued application of pressure will compress the spring completely. With a Hypnos spring, you can apply a certain amount of pressure and collapse the spring only so far, you have to apply more pressure to compress the spring further.

This gradual and progressive response from the spring allows for perfect support - not too firm, not too soft. The spring has been treated with various thresholds throughout, known as Active Turns, and it is these Active Turns that allow for the perfect amount of support.

    • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

    • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

    • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

    • Guarantee (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Guarantee extends for a Decade. Your new Hypnos mattress or base will have a leaflet with more information, as well as a form to be completed and sent to Hypnos directly.

    • Pillow Top

A pillow top mattress is a relatively new development in the bedding industry. Originally the technique applied to the more expensive mattresses, the technique has been perfected to such an extent that the prices have fallen the Pillow Top is much more widely available. Known as the Euro Top by American retailers, the design was originally on the wider market a few years ago, and is now a common site in bedrooms around the World. The idea is to separate the surface fillings from the core of the mattress itself. This results in more support and more comfort. Many traditional mattresses fasten the surface fillings to the spring unit in the mattress. A Pillow Top mattress has a distinct separate layer for the fillings and therefore reacts independently to the spring unit, resulting in less dipping and a solid feel. The technique also offers greater edge-to-edge support.

Pillow tops can take many forms nowadays. A deep layer on the surface which contains memory foam. Another technique of Pillow Top mattress is the Silentnight Treasure mattress. A shallower, quilt like style. All in all, this type of mattress is continuing to go from strength to strength and would appear to be here to stay.

    • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

    • Pressure Points

Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).

When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight.

    • Queen (Hypnos)

Hypnos have been holders of the Royal Warrant since 1929. Hypnos's Royal Warrant is for HM Queen Elizabeth II and covers the category - 'Bedding and upholstery manufacturers'.

    • Royal Warrant

      See 'Queen'.

    • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

    • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.

    • Turns (Hypnos)

This relates to the ReActive and UltraSens spring units. The term Turn is the number of points that the spring has been heat treated, therefore the number of pressure thresholds it can respond to.
