Product Description

The Sealy Sterling mattress is part of the new Enhance Collection, a range of three beds designed to offer supreme comfort without compromising on the support or durability of the mattress. The Sterling mattress is the firmest in the range and has been created for those who prefer a mattress to be much firmer than the average. Having said that; the Gel layer on the surface is still comfortable, so sleeping on the Sterling is far from sleeping on the floor!

Sealy has used a 1000-pocket spring unit at the core of this mattress. With pocket springs, each spring will move up and down as weight is applied or moved on the mattress, allowing the mattress and its springs to mirror the contours of the body perfectly and instantly. As each spring is wrapped in its own fabric pocket, it cannot interfere with the surrounding springs and so the support offered is uncompromised.

On top of this no-turn mattress is a Gel layer that offers comfort that perfectly complements the supportive springs underneath. Gel has been used not only for comfort, but also the durability and breathability. Air can move freely through the gel, keeping it cool and comfortable at all times. The Gel is applied only to one side, as this is a no-turn mattress, only requiring rotation (spinning around) once per season.

We deliver the Sealy Sterling mattress to the room of choice for free (some geographical charges may apply) with our 2-person delivery crews!

Glossary

  • Foam Encapsulation

Foam Encapsulation is a recent addition to the bedding market. An idea designed to offer greater edge-to-edge support as well offering greater Bedstead/Slatted base compatibility.

The idea is simple; Create a spring unit and then sit it in a 'matchbox' of Foam. As you can see in the diagram below, the spring unit is surrounded on all sides by a layer of Memory Foam. This foam gives a solid, stable feel to the mattress and allows the spring unit to be completely separated from the mattresses fillings and cushion.

Once the spring unit is set in the foam and the foam glued together, it can be surrounded by fillings and fibre to create the traditional look for a mattress or can be given a Pillow Top for even more comfort.

  • Latex

Latex is the ultimate in luxurious natural materials (but can be synthetic in other markets). Latex is actually found in more than 10% of flowering plants around the world. About 20,000 species from more than 40 families. The Latex used in the bedding industry is taken from sustainable sources. Latex is perfect for mattresses because it is soft, hypoallergenic, natural and moulds to the shape of the body.

Latex used in bedding also tends to be treated in such a way that it can be used by people who have Latex allergies! The technique used is to super heat the Latex unit, freeze it, super heat it and freeze it again. Once this process is complete, the harmful chemicals released can be chemically washed off, leaving it suitable for everyone. Latex is the material Memory Foam has tried to copy. Memory foam  requires heat to mould to the shape of your body and can therefore become too warm for some. Latex does not require heat and is soft at any temperature. As a natural material which requires time and various processes to be extracted, Latex can be more expensive that its rival materials, but the comfort levels achieved are well worth it.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Pressure Points

Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).

When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
