Product Description

The Sealy Steeple mattress is the top of the range model from Sealy's Ortho Plus Collection -  a range of Sealy's firmest mattresses! If you're looking for strong support or just have a personal preference for firmer feeling mattresses, then this is the collection for you, and this is the best of the range. Sealy has applied various specifications to this mattress to create a firmer feel, but this mattress differs from other firm mattresses on the market, thanks to the technical and medical research undertaken.

Sealy is the world's largest bed maker and has a global reputation for producing beds and mattresses of high quality, but they have built their brand on the medical and health professionals that have been involved in the development of the mattresses for many, many years. This is not just a firm mattress, but it is a carefully designed mattress that will provide great support as well as posture enhancing comfort, preventing aches and pains caused by pressure points forming.

The Sealy Steeple mattress has the famous PostureTech spring system at its core, effortlessly giving great support. This mesh system spreads body weight instantly and effectively, promoting the good posture the body needs. As well as this, the Steeple has the additional benefit of PowerPack - Sealy's carefully engineered lumbar sensitive additional support. Finally; Sealy has applied EdgeGuard support to the mattress, which creates strong sidewalls and even more durability.

This Sealy mattress is turnable and rotatable, ideal for those who prefer a more traditional mattress. We recommend turning and / or rotating once per week for the first few weeks after delivery to ensure an even and consistent settlement. After that; it is done every three months, alternating between the two motions. This is a tufted mattress, binding the surface layers in place at a precise density, and Sealy has applied a luxuriously soft and comfortable cover fabric to this mattress. The Steeple is backed by a 5-year guarantee.

    Awful mattress
I’m not really a fussy sleeper, so can get a decent nights sleep on. Most types of mattresses. But after 6 months I can categorically say this is the worst mattress I have ever had. It creaks, transfers movement and is so lumpy. Stay well clear.

Poor quality and def not the expected support
I bought this to replace my 10-year-old Sealy Posturepedic with similar specs and rating. Even compared to my old mattress, Steeple doesn't offer the required support, I could not notice the lumbar function, the edge guard is not fit for purpose. Generally, I am appalled about the poor quality, definitely NOT what I was expecting from Sealy.

    Seems good
I've been using this mattress for a couple of weeks now and I'm quite satisfied with it. I had a bad back before, but not anymore. I can finally get out of bed in the morning without any pain whatsoever.

Glossary

  • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

  • Orthopaedic

Orthopaedic mattresses are usually the firmest mattresses on the market. A common mistake made by those with back pain, is to assume that a firm Orthopaedic mattress will be the solution. Personal comfort and a correct diagnosis of the cause of the pain should always be saught before purchasing an Orthopaedic mattress.

Many brands have 'Ortho' mattresses. Terms used include 'Backcare' or 'Orthocare' and the theme is generally to produce a firmer feeling mattress. The idea is to create a mattress that the body can rest on without sinking in and bending the spine, causing pressure to build up. However, if a lighter person lays on a firmer mattress, they will find the spine will not align correctly as the loaded parts of the body (shoulders, hips etc) are not sitting correctly. For more information on the causes of back pain, click here or read about another solution in the Zoning description.

  • Pressure Points

Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).

When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight.

  • Tufts

This is the dimple like way of binding the various layers of the mattress together. A cord is fasted from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and held tightly in place.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
