The Hypnos Regency St James Sublime Sublime mattress is the latest generation of this superb mattress. This latest evolution sees Hypnos invigorate the mattress with two key changes. One is the heat responsive nature of the fillings and cover fabric, the other is the introduction of super-soft New Zealand Wool.

As well as those two improvements, Hypnos has maintained the key ingredients to the St James Sublime, ensuring this wonderful mattress' support and comfort remain as good as it always has been. The Hypnos Regency St James Sublime mattress is at the centre of the famous Regency Collection, a range of luxury beds designed to showcase exactly what Hypnos can do. The St James has been one of our best-selling luxury mattresses since we introduced it several years ago, and is now updated, hence the addition of 'Sublime'.

This Hypnos mattress is built around the famous Hypnos UltraSens Spring System - a pocket spring which is so refined and so clever that it is able to offer an exact amount of support precisely where it is required, instantly. The UltraSens system operates much the same as a high count pocket spring in other brands beds, but the Hypnos spring changes its firmness according to the pressure being applied. This means that the areas requiring more support (hips, shoulders etc) will receive it, the areas that do not require such firm support will remain soft, delicate and incredibly comfortable. In short, the Hypnos spring does not compromise on comfort or support. This particular spring has 16 different firmness levels, and it will increase through these to the precise amount required. The difference between the UltraSens Spring and the ReActive Spring seen in other Hypnos mattresses is a fine detail at the extreme ends of the spring. The UltraSens Spring has a finer gauge of wire towards the end of the spring, resulting in a delicate and more luxurious feel.

The St James Sublime has a wonderfully luxurious and deep layer of natural fillings on both sleeping surfaces (turnable mattress). These layers are applied by hand to ensure an even and luxurious finish. The fillings include New Zealand Wool, Luxurious Cashmere, Alpaca Fillings and Cotton. These fillings are incredibly luxurious and comfortable. They are also breathable and completely natural. As the finest fillings available, you can be assured of a luxuriously comfortable nights sleep, and combined with the superb spring system, the St James Sublime is one of the best mattresses we have ever tried.

The surface layers of fillings and fibres in the St James Sublime are bound in place by the hand tufting method. This process is completed by highly skilled and experienced craftsmen and women, and sees a cord bind the surface to the core of the mattress, which can be tightened to assure a specific tension, as well as ensuring durability.

Further details of this mattress' specification highlight the quality and pedigree of the bed. There are Three rows of side stitched borders. This detail strengthens the side walls of the mattress, increasing the comfortable sleeping surface space and further increases the lifespan of the mattress. This side stitching technique is a very skilled job and binds the sides of the mattress to the core spring unit. The Regency St James Sublime has air vents all around, which improve the circulation of air through the mattress. The Pocket Spring unit acts like a bellow, moving air through the mattress to keep it cool and dry. This increases the lifespan of the mattress and results in a comfortable bed.

The cover material is luxurious Belgian Damask, the very finest. This silky smooth fabric is Wool enriched to benefit from the natural ability of Wool fibres to remain cool and dry. Hypnos has now infused this fabric with the patented 37.5deg Technology that sees microscopic mineral particles within the fibres. These minerals will absorb heat when you get too warm, and release it when you're cool. The outcome is that this mattress maintains the body's natural mico-claimte, further enhancing comfort.

We deliver all St James Sublime mattresses and beds to the room of choice, and unpack when in place. We carry this mattress and most base specifications in stock, ready for next day delivery with our 2-man crew.

Headboard sold separately.

    Not firm enough
We ordered this mattress in the firm tension, after much deliberation, and despite being assured it was a firm mattress, we have found that it is not firm enough for our needs. We do have it on a sprung base, which we're now replacing, and hope that will resolve the issue!

Lovely mattress, but very heavy considering it needs turning every few months!

Do you take the old mattress away?

Yes! You will see this option when you add the item to your basket.

How many springs does the St James mattress have?

Hypnos do not reveal their spring counts, as their springs are quite wide. We can confirm that the springs do number in the thousands, however.

Glossary

  • Active Turns (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Spring Unit is a special design. With a conventional spring, a continued application of pressure will compress the spring completely. With a Hypnos spring, you can apply a certain amount of pressure and collapse the spring only so far, you have to apply more pressure to compress the spring further.

This gradual and progressive response from the spring allows for perfect support - not too firm, not too soft. The spring has been treated with various thresholds throughout, known as Active Turns, and it is these Active Turns that allow for the perfect amount of support.

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

  • Guarantee (Hypnos)

The Hypnos Guarantee extends for a Decade. Your new Hypnos mattress or base will have a leaflet with more information, as well as a form to be completed and sent to Hypnos directly.

  • Pillow Top

A pillow top mattress is a relatively new development in the bedding industry. Originally the technique applied to the more expensive mattresses, the technique has been perfected to such an extent that the prices have fallen the Pillow Top is much more widely available. Known as the Euro Top by American retailers, the design was originally on the wider market a few years ago, and is now a common site in bedrooms around the World. The idea is to separate the surface fillings from the core of the mattress itself. This results in more support and more comfort. Many traditional mattresses fasten the surface fillings to the spring unit in the mattress. A Pillow Top mattress has a distinct separate layer for the fillings and therefore reacts independently to the spring unit, resulting in less dipping and a solid feel. The technique also offers greater edge-to-edge support.

Pillow tops can take many forms nowadays. A deep layer on the surface which contains memory foam. Another technique of Pillow Top mattress is the Silentnight Treasure mattress. A shallower, quilt like style. All in all, this type of mattress is continuing to go from strength to strength and would appear to be here to stay.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Pressure Points

Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).

When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight.

  • Queen (Hypnos)

Hypnos have been holders of the Royal Warrant since 1929. Hypnos's Royal Warrant is for HM Queen Elizabeth II and covers the category - 'Bedding and upholstery manufacturers'.

  • Royal Warrant

    See 'Queen'.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.

  • Turns (Hypnos)

This relates to the ReActive and UltraSens spring units. The term Turn is the number of points that the spring has been heat treated, therefore the number of pressure thresholds it can respond to.
