Product Description

The Strand mattress is part of the new Perfectly British Collection, a range of beds introduced by Sleepeezee to highlight their traditional skills and long-standing approach to making beds, which dates back to 1924. As one of only two Royal Warrant holders in the bed industry, Sleepeezee's approach is proven, the attention to detail and painstaking approach to their mattresses and beds results in Sleepeezee being regarded as one of the World's best bed makers. This new collection showcases precisely what Sleepeezee can do, and the Strand is a wonderful example.

The Strand mattress boasts 1400 pocket Springs and several layers of soft, comfortable fillings, including Cotton and two layers of Wool. Thanks to its clever construction, this is a no-turn mattress for easy care, only needing rotation once per season (although we recommend this is done more often in the early stages after delivery, to enable even settlement).

The Sleepeezee Strand mattress has 1400 pocket springs at its core, each moving like a piston as weight is applied, moving up and down to follow the contours of the body. Unlike a conventional spring system, pocket springs are all individually separated and held in their own fabric 'pocket'. The benefit of this is that the springs are not compromised by the surrounding spring being under pressure, resulting in accurate support that enhances posture and prevents aches and pains. This level of enhancement also improves blood flow and circulation, something which is pivotal to rejuvenating the body after a day's stresses and strains.

On top of the excellent spring system sits layer upon layer of deep, breathable fillings. Sleepeezee have added not one, but two layers of deep British Wool fillings to add a truly luxurious feel to the Strand mattress. There is also a super-soft Poly-Cotton layer for additional comfort. All these layers work in harmony to blend comfort with support.

The fillings inside this mattress are bound in place by the hand tufting technique, something which gives the mattress strength, but also prevents the fillings from moving around over time. This technique is traditional and requires a highly skilled craftsman or woman to complete, and works by passing a cord through the mattress to maintain the desired tension. The ends of these cords result in the dimple like effect you see on the surface. Sleepeezee has gone the extra mile by using only the very softest woollen tufts, for extra comfort.

The cover of this Sleepeezee mattress is a luxuriously soft and tactile Damask material, that is as durable as it is high quality. There are breather vents on the side of this mattress to allow air to flow freely through the mattress, helping it stay cool and dry throughout its long lifespan, which is guaranteed for 10 years. There are also flag stitched handles on the side for easy movement when required.

Sleepeezee are one of the industry's environmental pioneers and therefore this mattress is 'zero to landfill', meaning all parts can be reused. The Sleepeezee factory also follows this approach and has won awards and plaudits as a result.

    Not pleased
We had loose threads and wonky stitching. It is being replaced but the hassle of swapping the mattress is not ideal. We shall see what the new replacement is like!

    Superbly well made
    Excellent mattress, really well made.
We tried it in a local store and were very pleased but their delivery was too long. This mattress is as good as anything else out there but for half the price.

Glossary

  • Breathability

Mattresses need to breathe. With the amount of fillings and areas of space within a mattress, they can quickly hold heat and moisture. Over time this can influence the way a mattress behaves and also effect the life span of a mattress.

Manufacturers have developed different ways of tackling the problem of Breathability in mattresses. Some brands have used vents to allow air to pass through the mattress. Some brands use state-of-the-art materials to cover the mattress, such as Coolmax or Outlast. Memory Foam has a reputation of storing heat and moisture, as foam requires heat to soften up.Memory Foam brands have overcome this problem by applying Coolmax and Outlast, they also use Open Cell technology. This technique is to simply allow the foam to settle with larger spaces between the foam cells. This allows heat and moisture to move freely without getting trapped.

Some mattresses are created in such a way that they do not require any additional Breathability methods. These mattresses are generally the entry level mattresses with Open Coil spring units and not a great deal of fillings.

  • Breather Vent

    See Vents.

  • Fillings

The fillings of each mattress can differ from one another, but largely they include British Lambs Wool and Cotton. Some also feature Latex, Silk and Cashmere.

  • Firmness

MyNextMattress is developing a new and unique solution to the Firmness scale accuracy. Not seen anywhere else in the World, we will be measuring the Firmness of all our mattresses precisely and in detail.

We are the only company in the Country that will actually measure the Firmness of a mattress and give a grading out of 10. We are always aware that choosing your next mattress can be a difficult and time consuming process, therefore we strive to give as much information as possible on every mattress we sell.

The way our system works is by applying weight to a mattress. We will apply weight gradually and measure the amount the mattress dips. The more weight, the more the mattress will 'sink'. We would then measure the distance the mattress dips and plot these measurements (weight and distance) on a graph. This graph can then be used to tell us the Firmness category the mattress fits into, 7 out of 10 for instance.

Our Firmness Device provides a central rod which we apply weights to, on the bottom end there is a disc which pushes into the mattress. The top of this rod supports the weights and will sink according to the 'give' in a mattress. We measure from this point.

As a result of this unique technique, it will be possible for you to shop by the firmness of a mattress, this is not possible anywhere else.

  • Flag Stitched

Flag Stitching is the method in which handles are sewn to the sides of mattresses.

Flag Stitching is a robust and durable method normally the reserve of more expensive mattresses (due to the extra time and skill required).

  • Orthopaedic

Orthopaedic mattresses are usually the firmest mattresses on the market. A common mistake made by those with back pain, is to assume that a firm Orthopaedic mattress will be the solution. Personal comfort and a correct diagnosis of the cause of the pain should always be saught before purchasing an Orthopaedic mattress.

Many brands have 'Ortho' mattresses. Terms used include 'Backcare' or 'Orthocare' and the theme is generally to produce a firmer feeling mattress. The idea is to create a mattress that the body can rest on without sinking in and bending the spine, causing pressure to build up. However, if a lighter person lays on a firmer mattress, they will find the spine will not align correctly as the loaded parts of the body (shoulders, hips etc) are not sitting correctly. For more information on the causes of back pain, click here or read about another solution in the Zoning description.

  • Pocket Sprung

Pocket Sprung units are an adaption of the traditional open coil/continuous spring unit. By placing each spring in its own individual 'pocket' (a fabric sock-like pouch), the spring is not joined to any other part of the mattress. The pocket that supports the spring is then joined to its neighbouring pockets and this effect creates a unique feel.

By creating a spring unit in this way, it allows the springs to move independently, rather than sharing the pressure with surrounding springs. This effect allows for much more accurate contour following and a more comfortable feel overall.

If you were to push your hand into a traditionally sprung mattress, the area around your hand would dip/sink too. With Pocket Springs, this sunken area is much more remote and therefore more accurately follows the contours of the pressure source. There are differences in the techniques used to create Pocket Springs, but more or less they remain the same.

  • Pressure Points

Pressure Points are created in the body when lying on a mattress which is not suitable for a persons physique. The Pressure Points are caused by putting stresses through the body. When the spine is not aligned correctly (i.e, straight), it can cause pressure to build up in the back, hips or shoulders (etc).

When a bed is too soft, the body sinks in, causing certain areas to be under the strain of the rest of the body. When a mattress is too hard/firm, then the weight applied can cause the body to flex/bend in the opposite way - causing a similar problem. Hips, shoulders and so on, are requried to be sunken into the mattress slightly more than the surrounding areas, as they carry the weight. When this is not the case, the lower back may be bent to compensate. The ideal mattress is one which will keep the spine straight.

  • Royal Warrant

    See 'Queen'.

  • Side Stitched

Side Stitching is the way in which the side of a mattress is finished. A traditional process, the Side Stitching technique applied by many high-end companies, is a highly-skilled profession and takes time and a great deal of experience to perfect. The technique involves passing a needle through the side of a mattress right the way through to the horizontal surfaces for additional strength and stability. This technique is normally the reserve of expensive, high-end mattresses.

Another technique applied more commonly in mid-range mattresses, is to simply attach the stitching to the spring unit in the mattress. Other manufacturers may simply use a material on the side of the mattress which appears to be side stitched, but actually is not.

  • Tufted

Tufting is a traditional and highly successful way of finishing a mattress surface. The end result makes the mattress appear to have dimples, or buttons dipping into the surface. This technique is designed to hold the surface materials together and to fix them to the core of the mattress to prevent the layers moving over time. A modern method is Spiral Tufting, which involves fixing the surface to the fillings and spring unit.

The actual tuft is usually made from a cotton felt material and is fastened by a cotton or wool chord to the spring unit, in most cases. A tufted mattress will normally have a firmer surface than a non-tufted/quilted surface. The reason for this is that the Tufting process actually holds the surface material and underlying fibre layers tightly together. This will create a tighter, firmer feel than a quilted mattress.

  • Tufts

This is the dimple like way of binding the various layers of the mattress together. A cord is fasted from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and held tightly in place.

  • Turn / No Turn

Some mattresses require turning over, to aid even settlement. Others do not require turning, but will still require rotating.
